In 1989 she founded and directed
the music school FUNDACEM (Fundacion Centro de Estudios Musicales "Karine Gil de Weir"), with a
1st center in San Antonio de los Altos (300 students - 18 music teachers), and a 2nd center in
Maracaibo, Zulia state (100 students - 8 music teachers). Karine has taught music at pre-school,
elementary, middle school, college levels and piano teacher at the J. Luis Paz Conservatory of
Music in Maracaibo. Her advanced students from FUNDACEM and Conservatory participated in national
piano competitions (4 winners) and performed piano concerts with the Symphonic Orchestra of Maracaibo.
International recording artist Fedora Mora of Maracaibo, Venezuela, is the
lastest of her students who has attained international recognition.
Karine's current artistic activities include annual solo piano recitals of Music of Venezuela,
Spain and of her own compositions in different venues: she has performed as a soloist with the
Orchestra of Conservatory "Juan Jose Landaeta" conducted by Pablo Castellano and with the Zulia
Symphonic Orchestra, conducted by Jerzy Luckaszewski. She has performed piano recitals at
Texas A&M University, at the Music Museum of Stockholm, Sweden, at the University of Juarez,
Durango, Mexico, at Hastings College in Nebraska, among other important piano concert rooms in USA.
In 2000, Karine was awarded the recognition "Valor Artistico del Zulia"
(merit towards the arts, State of Zulia, Venezuela). In keeping true to her heart Karine
set up a facebook page "FUNDACEM ALUMNOS DE MUSICA DE KARINE GIL" where she continues
to communicate with her international former students.
Karine has resided in the United States since 2002, and is an
active member of the Music Teachers National Association.Through 2006 she was a
piano teacher and piano accompanist in Bryan/College Station, Texas, and active
member of the Texas Music Teacher association, and Brazos Valley Piano Teacher
Association and recently is a new member of
the association of music teachers in Nebraska. She has participated in many
music festivals and recitals both as a pianist and piano
teacher with her group of piano-keyboard students.
Karine received a BA in
Biology (Universidad Simon Bolivar, 1984), a Master in
Applied Ecology (Universidad del Zulia, 2000), and a Ph.D.
in Wildlife and Fisheries - Ph.D. in Wildlife and Fisheries
Sciences (Texas A&M University, 2005).She held a postdoctoral
position at the Royal Academy of Sciences in Stockholm, Sweden,
between 2006-2007, was an ecologist at the Platte River Whooping
Crane Trust, Wood River, Nebraska from 2007 to 2011. She currently is Director
of Ecosystems Advisors, LP and a professor of Biology at Blinn College, Bryan, Texas.
Karine's expertise is in ecology of birds.
However, her life is always combined with music, performing and
teaching.

Karine Gil is a Venezuelan
composer, concert pianist an piano teacher. She studied music at the National Conservatory of
Music "Juan Jose Landaeta", in Caracas, Venezuela from 1970 to 1983, where she studied
piano with Beatriz Vegas (graduated from the Mannes College of Music N.Y. and former
student of Mme. Vengerova). After graduation, Karine continued piano lessons in Venezuela
with Harriet Serr (USA), and international visiting professors, such as Regina Smendzianka
(Poland) and Walter Blackenheim (Germany). She complemented her musical studies with
advanced courses of pedagogy, scenic arts, music-therapy and piano improvisation.
